Box Score

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's soccer tea dropped a close call, 1-0, at Saint Francis U. in a true defensive battle Sunday afternoon in Loretto, Pa.

The Bulldogs, who only managed to get off three shots in the match, fall to 4-7 overall on the year, and 1-1 against Northeast Conference opponents while the Red Flash improve to 8-2-3, remaining unbeaten in the league (1-0-1).

After a scoreless first frame, Saint Francis put themselves on top when Jack Webber headed in the eventual game-winner off assists from Pablo Medina and Bryan Causey in the 49th minute of the match.

Offensive was tough to come by for both squads as they combined for just 13 total shots (10-3, SFU) and six shots on-goal (5-1, SFU). The lone SOG for the Bulldogs came from junior defender Shane Murphy (Kennett Square, Pa.), with classmate Connor Norat (Wilmington, Del.) and Kevin Tejada (Clifton, N.J.) accounting for the only other Bryant shots.

Bryant keeper Chris Knaub (Yarmouth, Maine) stopped four Red Flash shots in the match, allowing the long goal, while Daniel Valcicak saved the long Bulldog shot on goal in the win.

The Black and Gold will have the next week off, returning to action on Sunday, Oct. 20 when they continue NEC play against Sacred Heart (2 p.m.)
