DESPITE SCORING FIRST, THE BULLDOGS FALL TO THE CRIMSON, 4-1, ON THE ROAD

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University field hockey team fell to Harvard, 4-1, Monday night in Cambridge, Mass.

Despite getting on the board first, the Bulldogs allowed the Crimson to tally the next four goals, en route to a 4-1 loss. The defeat drops Bryant to 2-7 on the season.

Freshman Michelle Fallon (Pompton Plains, N.J.) gave the Black and Gold an early one goal lead when she recorded her second marker of the year at the 7:55 mark. Fallon advanced the ball into the circle and was able to beat the Crimson defense for the first goal of the contest.

Harvard went on to register the next four goals, including three in the final 13 minutes of the first half.

Elizabeth Jacobson netted the equalizer for the Crimson at the 22:29 mark off a helper from a penalty corner by Caitlin Rea. Katelin Wahl and Rachael Rosenfeld each went on to put home a goal in the final ten minutes of the half, to push the Harvard lead to 3-1 at halftime.

Noel Painter registered the fourth and final Crimson goal ten minutes into the second half, ending the contest, 4-1, in favor of the home team.

Bryant junior goalkeeper Megan Hancock (Skowhegan, Maine) recorded seven saves in her ninth start of the season. Thus far, Hancock has played every minute in goal for the Bulldogs this year. Harvard keeper Cynthia Tassopoulos stopped eight Bryant chances, allowing only the one early score.

The Crimson outshot the Bulldogs, 19-12, on the night. Bryant was led by sophomore Rosie Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand) who fired four shots in the game, including two on goal.

The Black and Gold will have an opportunity to get back in the win column over the weekend when they head to Philadelphia for games against La Salle and Villanova.
