Michelle Fallon records first career goal in 3-1 loss to Aggies

SMITHFIELD, R.I – The Bryant University field hockey team lost to UC Davis, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in the second of three games in California over Labor Day weekend.

In their second game in just as many days, the Bulldogs fell short despite a valiant effort to unbeaten UC Davis. Freshman Michelle Fallon (Pompton Plains, N.J.) scored the lone Bryant goal, marking her first collegiate points.

The Aggies struck first, 13 minutes into the game, when junior Cloey LemMon netted her fourth goal of the season off a helper from Marissa Hughes.

The second half provided much more offense with all three goals coming within seven minutes of each other. The first score came at the 52:43 mark when Jamie Garcia fed Casey Wollbrinck into the circle for her first score of the year, extending the Aggie lead to 2-0.

The Bulldogs answered three minutes later when Fallon received a pass from senior Elise Driscoll (Harwich, Mass.) and fired a bullet from the right side past UC Davis goalkeeper Danielle Herrington, cutting the Aggie lead to one goal.

UC Davis scored their third and final goal with just over ten minutes to play. LemMon passed the ball across the net to Marissa Hughes who snuck it past Megan Hancock (Skowhegan, Maine) for her second score of 2012.

The Aggies outshot the Bulldogs, 32-8, in the contest. Hancock recorded ten saves in her third start of the season.

Bryant will have Sunday off before returning to play on Monday to wrap up their California road trip against the University of California at 4 p.m. EST.
