BULLDOGS CAN'T SNAP STREAK,
FALL TO MAINE 7-0 FRIDAY AFTERNOON
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Maine forward Jocelyn Mitchell scored
trio of goals while four others chipped in a single tally Friday
afternoon, as the Bryant University field hockey team struggled on
the road, suffering a 7-0 defeat to the Black Bears in Orono,
Maine.
Bryant (0-6) recorded just seven shots to Maine's 15 and put
four on target, led by two from junior Courtney Landi
(Kingston, N.Y.). Sophomore defender Rachel Blitz
(Riverwoods, Ill.) recorded a big defensive save early in
the first frame, one six stops for the Bulldogs on the day (5 more
by junior goalie Jennifer
Gullotti).
Mitchell's natural hat trick got the scoring started for the
Black Bears (5-2), who saw the first score come just 2:34 into the
contest. Mitchell would score twice more less than 30 seconds apart
in the 11th minute to give the home side a 3-0 advantage.
Alexa Binnendijk scored off a corner play from the top of the
circle three minutes later before Maire Dineen capped off the
first-half tallies at the 20:12 mark for a 5-0 lead at
intermission.
Maine would add two more after the break as the Bulldogs forced
Black Bear goalie Brittany Fleck to make four saves in the outing.
Maine was awarded 10 penalty corners in the affair to Bryant's
three, while the Bulldog defense held the hosts to just six
second-half shots.
The Bulldogs return to the field Sunday afternoon, when they
face off against crosstown rival Brown at 12 p.m. in
Providence.
