BRYANT FOOTBALL NAMES CAPTAINS FOR 2010
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University head football coach
Marty Fine is pleased to announce the captains for the upcoming
2010 season.
This year's captains as voted on by the team are:
senior tight end Doug Emerzian (Rowley, Mass./ Triton
Regional), senior linebacker Jason Riffe (Newton,
Mass. / Newton North), senior running back Mike
Canfora (Verona, N.J. / Verona) and senior defensive back
Addison Lynch (Braintree, Mass./ Braintree).
Emerzian came to Bryant in the fall of 2006 and has been an
integral leader both on the field and off. He missed all of
last season due to an injury but is expected to return to the
lineup and is a projected starter at tight end heading into fall
camp.
As a junior, he caught six passes for 68 yards including an
18-yard touchdown reception in Bryant's win over Duquesne.
Riffe enjoyed a breakout season last fall for the Bulldogs at
inside linebacker. Starting in all 11 games, Riffe led the
Bulldogs with 75 total tackles on the year including 11.5 tackles
for a loss and had one sack.
He had a career-high 14 tackles against Albany and posted nine
solo tackles against Robert Morris.
Canfora has been one of the most versatile players for the
Bulldogs the past three seasons. In 2009, Canfora was third
on the team with 232 yards rushing and finished second in receiving
yards with 29 catches for 255 yards.
He had a season-best six catches for 75 yards and one touchdown
in the win over Robert Morris and hauled in another six catches for
28 yards and a touchdown against Central Connecticut . He had a
season-high eight rushes for 33 yards and a touchdown against
Sacred Heart.
Lynch has been a starting defensive back for the past two
seasons for the Bulldogs and one of the hardest hitting safeties on
the team.
In 2009, Lynch tallied 15 tackles including five in the
season opener against Southern Connecticut. He also had two
interceptions and heads into his senior season with four forced
fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
Bryant will begin its third season of competing at the Division
I Football Championship Subdivision level on Saturday, September 4
when the Bulldogs host the Fordham University Rams at Bulldog
Stadium. Kickoff for the season opener will be at 3 p.m.
