BRYANT MEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS HARTFORD
7-0
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's
tennis team concluded its home portion of the 2009-10 season with a
solid 7-0 win over visiting Hartford on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs looked strong coming out of doubles play, winning all
three doubles matches including a big 8-1 win by the tandem of
Nicholai Hill (Ottawa, Ontario) and Paul
Chapman (Orange, Conn.) over Edgardo Ureta and Filip
Miletic.
In singles play, Cristian Balestrieri (Mar Del Plata,
Argentina) and Juan Paredes (Quito,
Ecuador) rolled at Nos. 1 and 2 singles while Dan
Cournoyer (Jefferson, Mass.) played extremely well in earning a
6-1, 6-1 win over Ureta at No. 5 singles.
Freshman Elias McQuade (Manchester, N.H. /
Central) earned his second victory in singles play this
season with a hard-fought win over the Hawks' Aaron Kooden at
No. 6 singles. Kooden won the opener 6-4 but McQuade came
back strong to win 6-3 in the second. In the match-breaker,
it was McQuade outlasting Kooden 10-8 to win the match.
Bryant will travel to St. John's on Saturday and wrap up
the season with a match at Concordia Sunday in New York.
