BRYANT GETS BIG 3-0 WIN
OVER INTRASTATE RIVAL PROVIDENCE COLLEGE WEDNESDAY AT
HOME
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman Kaitlyn Klein
(Modesto, Calif.) racked up 13 kills to lead the match
while junior Maria Scocca (Melrose, Mass.) added
11 to pace the Bryant University volleyball team to a 3-0 win over
crosstown rival Providence College Wednesday night at the Chace
Athletic Center.
Scocca, Klein and rookie Nicole Percz (Palos Verdes
Estates, Calif.) all boasted attack rates of better than
.350 on the evening, with Percz's .429 attack percentage off
eight kills in 14 attempts pacing the contest. Setter
Jadith Lorenzo (Lawrence, Mass.) recorded her 17th
double-double of 2010, complimenting a match-best 41 assists with
10 digs, while senior captain Robyn Gardner (Lake Brantley,
Fla.) recorded 13 digs to lead the outing defensively.
The Bulldogs (15-12) used nine aces – three of them from
Klein – to outlast the Friars (9-17), taking an easy 2-0
match lead with 25-11 and 25-14 set wins to open the contest. The
third game presented more of a challenge from the visitors, as
Providence battled to take over the lead midway through the set and
held it through the 23-21 mark, when Bryant ripped off
four-straight points to stun its opponent for a 25-23 win to take
the match in three.
Scocca and sophomore Emily Kaup (Chandler,
Ariz.) each recorded three blocks for the Bulldogs, while
junior Jazmin Stoner (Durango, Colo.) collected a
solo block. PC's Lauren Fletcher led the match with four
stuffs (1 solo) and paced the Friar side with nine kills and no
errors in the three-set affair, also recording the only ace of the
night for the visitors.
The Bulldogs complete non-conference action for the 2010 season
with the win and return to Northeast Conference play for good
Sunday afternoon, when they host Sacred Heart at the Chace Athletic
Center (1 p.m.).
