BRYANT FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO LA SALLE, 6-2, ON ROAD SATURDAY
AFTERNOON
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Elise Boissnoneau
(Ashburnham, Mass.) scored her fourth goal of the season
to give the Bryant University field hockey team an early lead, but
the Bulldogs couldn't hold on, falling at La Salle, 6-2,
Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs dropped to 1-9 overall with the loss after
recording their first win of the season last week with a 2-1
victory over Colgate.
Boissoneau put the Bulldogs on the board just five minutes into
the game, fielding a pass from Rachel Blitz (Riverwoods,
Ill.) and tipping it past Explorer (5-5) goalie Emma Ruth
for the 1-0 advantage.
The home team responded nearly 20 minutes later as Rebecca
Chylack fired a shot from the corner over the dive of Bryant goalie
Jennifer Gullotti (Waltham, Mass.). Teammates Beth
Carey and Neelam Kumar were credited with assists on the play.
Chylack also played a part in the final goal of the first half,
setting up a tally by Olivia Shoemaker on the near side in the 34th
minute for a 2-1 La Salle lead at intermission.
Despite entering the second stanza within one goal, the Bulldog
defense allowed four tallies in the final half, including a series
of quick back-to-back scores by Beth Carey and Kumar at the 40 and
42 minute marks. Gabrielle Nolt and Alysen Larsen added the other
La Salle tallies with Shoemaker assisting on the later play.
Junior Emily Carpenter (Walpole, Mass.) added
the second score for the Bulldogs on an unassisted shot for her
first goal of the season.
Bryant managed to take more shots in the second half by a margin
of 10-8 but was outshot overall, 22-12, while also losing the
battle for corners, 11-2. Gullotti made five saves in the contest
for the Bulldogs while the Explorer goalie made seven stops to pick
up the win.
The Black and Gold return to action on Sunday, Oct. 3 when they
visit Temple at 2:00 p.m.
