BRYANT SWIMMING DROPS DUAL MEET TO STONY BROOK
RESULTS
STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Bryant University men's and women's swim
teams dropped a dual match at Stony Brook University Saturday
afternoon. The Bryant men fell 157-94 while the women came up
short, 148-108 to the Sea Wolves.
The Bulldogs managed some solid performances as freshman Casey
Ostrander picked up three first-place finishes on the day.
Ostrander took top honors in the 100 backstroke in a time of 59.90,
just shy of her school record of 59.00 and nearly two seconds ahead
of runner up Christie Bodden of Stony Brook who touched in 1:01.04.
Ostrander would follow with a strong effort in the 50 yard
freestyle, edging SBU's Darcy Heuser by less than a second.
Ostrander came in with a time of 25.30 with Heuser at 25.59 and
SBU's Bodden at 25.80.
She would close out the day with a first-place finish in the 200
backstroke, cruising to a big win by more than five seconds at
2:11.56, well ahead of runner up Dierdre Leong of SBU who finished
in 2:16.82.
Freshman Molly Smith took home first in the 200 butterfly in
2:20.14, just ahead of teammate Kim Carbaleira who was second in
2:21.97. Smith would later capture first in the 200
individual medley in 2:16.73. Senior Jessica Looney was
second in 2:29.29 while Margaret Dickinson was third in 2:32.29.
The men were led by Alex Kosenski who earned a first in the 50
freestyle in 22.56 seconds while teammate Thomas Huynh swam a great
race in the 200 individual medley, winning in a time of
2:16.33. Sean Martell was second in 2:23.74.
Both Kosenski and Huynh teamed with Steve Nguyen and Kevin
McDonald to take first place in the 400 yard freestyle relay in a
time of 3:22.56.
The Bryant women will host Sacred Heart this Wednesday at 5 pm
at the Chace Athletic Center in the final home meet of the season.
