BULLDOGS FALL TO HOST MARIST, 3-0,
IN VOLLEY IN THE VALLEY CLOSER

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -The Bryant University volleyball team wouldn't
be able to avenge last weekend's loss Sunday afternoon against
Marist, as the Bulldogs fell to the host Red Foxes, 3-0, in the
final game of the "Volley in the Valley" Tournament.
The Bulldogs (1-5) first faced off against Marist (5-2) in last
weekend's University of Toledo Tournament, falling by the same
score.
Sunday against the Red Foxes, Bryant was led by a game-best
seven kills and five blocks from sophomore Maria Scocca
(Melrose, Mass.), who would be named to the all-tournament
team after collecting 47 kills and 15 blocks over three matches on
the weekend.
Fellow sophomore Jazmin Stoner (Durango, Colo.)
recorded six digs in the loss, as the Bulldogs fell 25-14, 25-19
and 25-21 to the tournament host. Both senior Adriana
Fuertes (Miramar, Puerto Rico) and junior Robyn
Gardner (Longwood, Fla.) tied game highs, with Fuertes
collecting 14 assists and Gardner registering 10 digs. Stoner also
chipped in seven digs.
The Red Foxes were led by seven kills from Alexandra Schultze,
while Lindsey Schmid registered six kills and four blocks.
Bryant finished 1-2 against "Volley in the Valley" Tournament
competition, topping Providence College Saturday morning before
falling to Bucknell in the nightcap.
The Bulldogs now return Smithfield, R.I., looking to get back on
the side of winning as they open their home slate on Wednesday,
Sept. 9 with a bout against Holy Cross (7 p.m.) at the Chace
Athletic Center.
