BULLDOGS TAKE 1-0 WIN OVER HOLY
CROSS BEHIND CHARPENTIER'S FIRST CAREER GOAL
Boxscore
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Sophomore Emily Charpentier (Walpole,
Mass.) made good on her first shot on goal of the season,
recording the first score of her career Wednesday night to vault
the Bryant University field hockey team to a 1-0 win over Holy
Cross at Hart Turf Field.
The goal came just 7:56 into the contest off a penalty corner,
when Charpentier took a pass from Katherine Andrusin (North
Andover, Mass.) and sent it into the right side of the
cage for a 1-0 lead that would stick through the final whistle. The
assist was the second of the year for Andrusin.
Despite a one-goal Bryant lead, the Bulldogs (3-6) were outshot
by the Crusaders (2-8), 11-9. Junior Elise Boissoneau
(Ashburnham, Mass.) recorded three shots, all on goal, to
lead the Bulldogs, while Courtney Callahan's five shots on goal on
five total shots were a game high.
Bulldog senior captain Kundayi Mawema (Harare,
Zimbabwe) made seven saves between the posts for her
second shutout of the season. Holy Cross counterpart Kelly Casey
made three saves in the loss.
The Bulldogs stay on the road for their next two contests,
traveling to western Pennsylvania to open Northeast Conference play
with their first two league matches of the year. Bryant will first
head to Robert Morris for a 1 p.m. faceoff on Friday, Oct. 2 before
playing Saint Francis (PA) Sunday, Oct. 4 at noon.
