BULLDOGS FALL TO DARTMOUTH, 4-2, ON
ROAD SUNDAY AFTERNOON
Boxscore
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - A goal and an assist from sophomore
Courtney Landi (Kingston, N.Y.) gave the Bryant
University field hockey team a 2-1 lead in the early minutes of the
second half, but the Bulldogs wouldn't be able to keep Dartmouth at
bay, allowing three unanswered goals to fall to the Big Green, 4-2,
on the road Sunday afternoon.
After an early Dartmouth (3-5) goal from Kelly Hood gave the
home side a 1-0 lead under four minutes in, Landi and the Bulldogs
(2-6) evened the score in the 18th minute as the sophomore
converted on a breakaway to score a wide open shot from inside the
circle.
Senior Tia Pydynkowski (Hampton Falls, N.H.)
would give Bryant a temporary 2-1 lead just five minutes out of the
halftime break when she took a pass from Landi and sent it beyond
the reach of Dartmouth goalie Meagan Vakiener into the lower left
side of the cage.
But the Big Green responded immediately, tacking on a pair of
goals just over a minute apart in the 46th and 47th minutes to go
up, 3-2.
Dartmouth would put the Bulldogs away for good in the 61st
minute, adding an insurance goal from Hood, her second of the game,
for the 4-2 final.
Hood played a part in all four of Dartmouth's goals, assisting
on Rebecca Sobel and Kelly McHenry scores in the opening minutes of
the second frame.
Landi paced the Bulldogs with four shots on the day, all four on
target. Hood sent 11 shots toward the Bryant net, nine of them
getting on senior goalie Kundayi Mawema (Harare,
Zimbabwe), who made seven saves in the contest.
Dartmouth outshot the Bulldogs, 17-10, also taking a 9-6
advantage on penalty corners. Vakiener made four saves between the
pipes for the Big Green.
The Bulldogs play once more before the end of September, taking
on Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 4 p.m.
before opening Northeast Conference play with a road matchup
against Robert Morris on October 2.
