BRYANT WOMEN'S TENNIS FALLS TO PROVIDENCE

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Bryant University women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought, five-hour match to Providence College, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon.  The Bulldogs got wins by Katie McCabe at No. 6 singles and earned two victories in doubles play.

After winning the doubles point, McCabe fought back to win the second set of her singles match after dropping the first to Jenn Cusack, 6-3.  The sophomore followed with a 6-4 win in the third to pull the Bulldogs to within a point of the Friars, 3-2. 

Irma Rodriguez won her opening set with Melissa Ferry at No. 5 singles, 6-0, but Ferry bounced back to win the next two, 6-4, 6-4.  Valaria Couto Cuervo fought back from an opening set loss to Courtney Burek at No. 3 to win the second set, 6-3.  But Burek outlasted the Bulldog junior in the third, 7-5.   Couto Cuervo was up 5-1 in the third against Burek, but the Friars clinched the match with Ferry's third-set win at No. 5. 

The Bulldogs will next return to action October 1 when they visit UConn.
