MEN'S SOCCER SHUTS OUT ARMY 3-0 IN THE FIRST-EVER MEETING
BETWEEN THE TWO PROGRAMS
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University men's soccer team made
the most of its opportunities against Army, picking up a 3-0 win in
sloppy conditions at Sutton Field today.
It didn't take long for the Bulldogs (2-3) to get on the board
against the Black Knights (1-3). In just the 6th minute of play,
Bulldog sophomore Ben Lawrence (Amherst, N.H.)
sent a free kick on goal that teammate Matt Brown (South
Easton, Mass.) was able to get a touch on and send into
the back left corner of the net. Only 15 minutes later Bryant put
another free kick on net, this one a strike from senior captain
Kyle Paton (Westfield, Mass.) was saved by Army
goalie Nick Alexander but forward Tom Nelan (East Haddam,
Conn.) was able to clean up the rebound and punch it into
the back of the goal to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead going into the
half.
The final Bulldog tally was made in the 81st minute by senior
Andre Barros (Ashland, Mass.). Barros positioned
himself in the right place at the right time as the ball bounced
off a Black Knight defender and right to the foot of the senior who
converted the final tally of the game to make it 3-0. It was the
first goal of the season for each of the three Bulldogs today.
Freshman keeper Matt Miscione (Ashland, Va.)
continued his consistent play with saves on all nine shots the
Black Knights put on goal.
The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 15 when they
host Brown University at Bulldog Stadium at 3 p.m. That game can be
