WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS FINAL GAME OF TOURNAMENT 2-1 IN OVERTIME

WASHINGTON, D.C.- After falling to Georgetown Friday afternoon to open the season, the Bryant University women's soccer team responded with a strong effort Sunday against American University only to come up short in falling to the Eagles 2-1 in overtime.

The lone goal and first of the Bulldogs' 2009 campaign was scored by freshman Morgan Derick (Ashland, Mass.) in the 60th minute off a long shot from straight away. Senior goalkeeper Katie Mitchell (Deer Park, N.Y.) had four saves in the game and closed out the tournament with 16 total saves.

Bryant starts its season 0-2 but will look to capitalize on home field advantage when they host the University of Hartford Sunday, Sept. 6 at 3:30 p.m.
