BULLDOGS DROP SEASON FINALE
2-1 TO DARTMOUTH COLLEGE ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - After taking an
early 1-0 lead on Tuesday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium, the Bryant
women's soccer team could not hold off the Big Green as Dartmouth
College came back to defeat the Bulldogs 2-1 in their season
finale.
With the loss, the Bulldogs end their season with a 4-13-2
overall record and sit in ninth place in the Northeast Conference
with a 2-6-2 mark.
Tuesday's game was highlighted by Dartmouth sophomore Aly O'Dea
as she guided the Big Green to their ninth win of the year with her
two goals.
The Bulldogs jumped out to the early lead in the 24th minute
when freshman Jennifer Harding (Lancaster, Mass.)
intercepted a pass from a Dartmouth defender and dribbled the ball
toward the Big Green goal. Harding used her speed to get around the
defender and shot the ball past a charging keeper into the left
side of the net for her third and final goal of her freshman
campaign.
It appeared that Bryant would carry the one goal lead into the
half but in the 43rd minute Big Green captain Myra Sack sent a
through ball between two Bryant defenders to her teammate O'Dea.
The forward was able to beat Bulldogs senior keeper Katie
Mitchell (Deer Park, N.Y.) to the right side for the
equalizer. Mitchell recorded 10 saves in her final contest as a
Bulldog.
It didn't take long for the Big Green forward to strike again
when O'Dea once again found herself in the right place at the right
time. Senior captain Kelsey Quick took a shot from the top of
the18-yard box that Mitchell was unable to hold on to and O'Dea put
in the rebound goal. The game-winner marked the second of the game
for the sophomore.
The Big Green displayed a high-powered offensive attack as they
outshot the Bulldogs 26-4. O'Dea took 11 shots, six of which were
on net.
