BULLDOGS CLOSE OUT 2009 SEASON WITH
3-0 LOSS TO LONG ISLAND SUNDAY AFTERNOON

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University volleyball team put up
a solid effort in its 2009 season finale, but the Blackbirds were
too much for the Bulldog side, as Bryant fell to Long Island, 3-0,
Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn, N.Y.
The Blackbirds (19-13, 16-0 Northeast Conference) limited Bryant
leading scorer Maria Scocca (Melrose, Mass.) to
just five kills as rookie Macy Mitravich (Waimanalo,
Hawaii) led the Bulldogs (11-23, 6-10) with six kills in
the straight-set loss (25-8, 25-11, 25-21).
LIU, led by 14 kills from Svetlana Simic, remains undefeated in
the Northeast Conference. Seniors Julie Geonnotti (Eden
Prairie, Minn.) and Adriana Fuertes (Miramar,
Puerto Rico) led the Bulldogs with seven assists apiece,
while 16 digs from junior libero Robyn Gardner (Longwood,
Fla.) were a match high.
Bryant was outblocked, 17-5, on the day but were led by Scocca's
three stuffs (1 solo, 2 assists).
The Bulldogs wrap up their 2009 season with an 11-23 overall
record, taking six wins within the Northeast Conference in just
their second Division I season.
