STONER RECORDS DOUBLE-DOUBLE,
BULLDOGS FALL TO BLUE DEVILS, 3-1
Boxscore
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Despite a 19-kill, 11-dig performance from
sophomore Jazmin Stoner (Durango, Colo.), the
Bryant University volleyball team fell to Central Connecticut, 3-1,
Wednesday night.
Stoner's 19 kills were a match high and the third-straight
double-digit kill contest for the Colorado native.
The Bulldogs (10-22, 5-9 Northeast Conference) went down two
sets early as the Blue Devils (17-13, 11-3) took 25-20 and 25-14
victories in the opening frames. Bryant got one back in the third,
getting the biggest win of the night by a 25-13 score, but it
wouldn't be enough to keep Central Connecticut at bay. The Blue
Devils would seal the win in the fourth frame, 25-16.
Stoner added a team-best two aces and a block to her match
totals, while freshman Jadith Lorenzo (Lawrence,
Mass.) recorded 23 assists with four stuffs. Sophomore
Maria Scocca (Melrose, Mass.) and junior captain
Adrienne Boss (Dracut, Mass.) each chipped in
seven kills. Scocca's six blocks paced the Bulldogs at the net
while junior libero Robyn Gardner (Longwood, Fla.)
picked up a match-high 16 digs on the night.
Blaike King led the Blue Devils with 11 kills, while Emily
Cochran recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs and Sara
Delacey made a contest-best 11 blocks.
The Bulldogs return to the court for one more weekend of action
in the 2009 season. Bryant travels to St. Francis (NY) on Saturday
for a 2 p.m. matchup and rounds out the campaign at Long Island
Sunday at noon.
