BULLDOGS COME FROM BEHIND TO
TIE SEAHAWKS 1-1 ON SENIOR DAY AT BULLDOG STADIUM
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant
University women's soccer team rallied and were able to come from
behind in the second half to tie the Wagner College Seahawks 1-1 on
senior day at Bulldog Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Seniors Katie Mitchell (Deer Park, N.Y.),
Molly Wallace (Sandwich, Mass.), Alex
DiPippo (Shelton, Conn.), Brianne Lustenring (Massapequa,
N.Y.), Ashley Montgomery (Hollis, Maine)
and Holly Tyser (Somers, Conn.) were the six
seniors honored prior to the Northeast Conference matchup.
After a scoreless first half, Wagner (3-13-3, 1-7-2 NEC) opened
up the scoring in the 59th minute when Terryn Marette sent a corner
kick into the box to Monica Zurich. Zurich was able to flick the
ball across the box to Briana Vassallo who shot the ball into the
top left part of the net for the score.
The Bulldogs (4-12-2, 2-6-2 NEC) rallied back to tie the game
just 13 minutes later when senior Holly Tyser was able to net her
second goal of the season. Sophomore Mary Green (Merrick,
N.Y.) sent a cross from the right baseline to Tyser
waiting on the opposite side of the field. Tyser was able to gather
herself and strike the ball with her
left foot into the right side-netting for the equalizer.
Bryant senior keeper Katie Mitchell recorded two key saves in
the game and was involved on several other defensive battles. The
Bulldogs outshot their opponents by a staggering margin of 26-7.
Bryant also had 12 corner kicks compared to just two for the
Seahawks.
The Bulldogs return to action for their season finale on
Tuesday, Nov. 3 when they host Dartmouth at Bulldog Stadium.
Dartmouth, affiliated with the Ivy League, is currently 8-7 overall
and 3-3 in the conference. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m.
start.
