SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Sophomore Maria Scocca (Melrose,
Mass.) collected a match-high 13 kills to pace the
Bulldogs, but it wouldn't be enough to get the win, as the Bryant
University volleyball team fell, 3-0, to intrastate rival
Providence College Tuesday night on the road.
Jazmin Stoner (Durango, Colo.) also chipped in
nine kills on the match as the Bulldogs never recovered from a
tough 25-11 first-set loss. The Bulldogs (5-13) would eventually
fall in three sets (25-11, 25-22, 25-18).
Junior libero Robyn Gardner (Longwood, Fla.)
recorded a contest-best 13 digs on the day, while freshman setter
Jadith Lorenzo (Lawrence, Mass.) collected 13
assists to lead Bryant in just her second collegiate match.
Lauren Fletcher led the Friars (10-12) with 10 kills and a
match-high nine blocks (2 solo, 7 assists), while Carly Morrison
registered a pair of match-bests with 30 helpers and five service
aces. Kourtney Halliday also recorded seven blocks (2 solo, 5
assists) for Providence.
The Bulldogs return to the court Thursday, Oct. 8 when they
visit Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. for a rematch of Bryant's home
opener (7 p.m.).
