FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Bryant University volleyball team
continued its dominance in its new home in Division I, sweeping its
two Saturday games of this weekend's Sacred Heart University
Invitational in Fairfield, Conn.
The Bulldogs (4-1) started the day with an early game against
the University of Hartford (1-4), winning soundly in three sets.
Freshman Jazmin Stoner (Durango, Colo.) led Bryant
for the fourth-straight game, registering 10 kills, tying sophomore
Adrienne Boss (Dracut, Mass.) for the team high.
Senior co-captain Delia Glover (Marston Mills,
Mass.) led the team with 14 digs, while the Bulldogs'
other senior captain, Maureen Atkins (Fenton, Mo.)
registered nine. Rookie Maria Scocca (Melrose,
Mass.) recorded a pair of solo blocks, while five other
Bulldogs recorded a solo block of their own. Miranda Kolb's
(Holt, Mich.) 31 assists led the game.
And if Division I wasn't yet convinced of Bryant's worth, a 3-0
romp of the College of the Holy Cross in the 3 p.m. matchup was
even more convincing.
Rookie Hilary Andrews (Tipp City, Ohio) led the
nightcap with nine kills, also recording six digs, while Stoner and
Scocca knocked down eight and seven kills, respectively. Scocca
added another pair of solo blocks in the contest, as well as two
block assists.
The Crusaders (0-4) kept it close in the first set, falling
25-21, but wouldn't get close to overtaking a stronger Bryant side
in the second two, with the Bulldogs winning the final set, 25-9.
The Bulldogs close out the SHU Invitational Sunday morning, when
they face off against host Sacred Heart at 10 a.m.
