PROVIDENCE - Against top-tier Division I competition Saturday in
Day Two of the Brown Tournament, the Bryant University volleyball
team dropped a doubleheader to Stony Brook University, 3-2, and to
host Brown University, 3-0, at Pizzitola Memorial Sports Center.
The Bulldogs started out the day with a heartbreaking five-set
loss to Stony Brook University, 3-2, Saturday afternoon.
Senior co-captain Delia Glover (Marston, Mills,
Mass.) had a tremendous game at the libero position,
falling just three digs short of Bryant's all-time record for digs
in a five-set match. Glover recorded a pair of service aces to
compliment her 36 digs Saturday.
The Bulldogs' trio of stellar freshmen performed well again in
the day's opener, all registering double-digit kills.
Hilary Andrews (Tipp City, Ohio) led the way
with 17 kills, falling one dig short of a double-double with a trio
of service aces. Jazmin Stoner (Durango, Colo.)
and Maria Scocca (Melrose, Mass.) recorded 14 and
12 kills, respectively, while Scocca also registered two aces and
game-high six block assists.
Setter Miranda Kolb (Holt, Mich.) earned 45
assists.
The Bulldogs (9-5) had an even tougher time in the nightcap,
losing to host Brown University in three-straight sets.
Scocca and sophomore Adrienne Boss (Dracut,
Mass.) each registered a team-high five kills, while
Stoner and Julie Geonnotti (St. Louis Park, Minn.)
each had four.
Brown (7-1) was led by double-digit kills by Lyndse Yess (13)
and Danielle Vaughan (10).
The Bulldogs return to action, Friday, September 26, when they
take on Saint Francis (NY) at the Dartmouth Tournament. Bryant will
faceoff against Harvard and host Dartmouth Saturday, September 27.
