BRYANT VOLLEYBALL SHUTS OUT
USC-UPSTATE, 3-0, IN DIVISION I DEBUT

ANNAPOLIS - Led by a game-high 12 kills in 17 attempts from
freshman Jazmin Stoner (Durango, Colo.), the
Bryant University volleyball team aced its Division I debut, taking
a 3-0 win over the University of South Carolina-Upstate to open
Navy's Trident Classic Friday afternoon.
The Bulldogs came out strong, winning the first set, 25-16,
before taking the second, 25-20 - the closest USC-Upstate would
come to catching Bryant. A 25-19 win in the third set secured the
2008 volleyball team's first win of the year, and more importantly,
first Division I win in program history.
The Bulldogs found exactly what their rookies could add in the
bout, as another freshman, Hilary Andrews (Tipp City,
Ohio) followed Stoner with nine kills, also adding six
digs and a block assist. The third of the freshman trio,
Maria Scocca (Melrose, Mass.), also had a big day
at the net, recording a match-high four block assists to compliment
five kills.
Junior Julie Geonnotti (St. Louis Park, Minn.)
chipped in six kills of her own, while senior co-captain
Delia Glover (Marston Mills, Mass.) had a
match-high 16 digs. Sophomore setter Miranda Kolb (Holt,
Mich.) was superb setting up the attack for the Bulldogs,
notching 27 assists to go along with a trio of digs and as many
block assists.
USC-Upstate was led by 12 kills by Sandra Campbell, while Holly
Mauldin made a team-high 11 assists. Morgan Thomas led at the net,
recording three block assists.
Bryant will play twice Sunday, first facing off against host
Navy at 10 a.m. before squaring off against future conference rival
Saint Francis (N.Y.) at 3 p.m. to close out the Trident Classic.
