RINDGE, N.H. - Freshman Dylan Schmitz (Newport, RI. /
Moses Brown) scored a career-high 5 goals to lead the
fifth-ranked Bryant University men's lacrosse team to a 22-4 win
over Franklin Pierce Sunday afternoon in men's lacrosse
action. The win, Bryant's sixth in-a-row since a loss to
top-ranked Le Moyne back on March 22, improves the Bulldogs' record
to 9-3 overall and 6-1 in the NE-10.
A total of 14 players scored at least a goal in Sunday's game as
Bryant led 5-2 after one quarter and took a 15-2 lead into the
locker room at the half. Thanks to another strong outing in
the face-off circle in which Bryant won 21 of 29 face-off's, 10 by
Andrew Hennessey (Wading River, NY) and four by
Bryant Amitrano (Valley Stream, NY), the Bulldogs
got off to a strong start against the Ravens.
Freshman Gary Crowley (Scituate, MA) put the
Bulldogs up quickly with an unassisted goal just 24 seconds into
the game. Kevin Hoagland (Glastonbury, CT)
followed a few minutes later to make it 2-0 but Franklin Pierce
would pull even thanks to goals by Luke Ferreira and Jason Flanigan
just 14 seconds apart.
But Crowley put the Bulldogs ahead for good with two straight
goals, including one man-up tally and Bryant never looked
back.
Schmitz, who helped lead Moses Brown to three league titles and
was a four-year Rhode Island All-Star, entered the game with three
goals on the season and nearly doubled his total Sunday against the
Ravens.
The Bulldogs will return home Tuesday night hosting Assumption
College under the lights at the Turf Field Complex. Game time is
set for 7 pm.
