BROOKVILLE, NY - The Bryant University men's lacrosse team
fell for the first time this season, dropping an 11-5
non-conference decision at sixth-ranked C.W. Post Saturday
afternoon at Hickox Field. The Bulldogs, ranked fifth
nationally this week, will look to rebound next Saturday when they
travel to Annapolis, MD to face Saint Andrew's in a neutral site
game at Rip Miller Field at 1 p.m.
Despite a defensive battle for much of the opening quarter,
Bryant (1-1) would get on the board first as Brad
Burton notched his first goal of the season on an assist
from Matt McKeefrey with just 2:36 left. It
would be the only goal of the first quarter, but CW Post would
tally two goals in the second to take a 2-1 advantage into the
locker room at the half.
The Pioneers (4-0) would erupt for five unanswered goals in the
third to take a commanding 7-1 lead into the fourth quarter and
would later make it 8-1 on a goal by Rob Rennetta in the opening
seconds of the final quarter before the Bulldogs would finally
counter.
This time, it was Burton again, getting a pass from
Bryan Kaufmann to beat Pioneer goalie Daniel
Sciulla to make it 8-2. But another Renetta goal three
minutes later swung the momentum back to CW Post as the hosts would
remain undefeated to start the season.
Kaufmann, Kevin Hoagland, and Gary
Crowley would each add single goals in the fourth as the
Bulldogs fell despite holding a 35 to 27 shot advantage in the
game. Renetta and Greg Cerar each had three goals for CW Post
while Dave Loftus added a pair.
