sixth goal of the season with just over four minutes left in the
game as Bryant grabbed its third win of the season with a 3-1
victory over NJIT in Newark Sunday afternoon. The goal was Hinck's
third game-winner, as she has scored the go-ahead goal in all three
of Bryant's victories this year. Sophomore Sarah Donovan
(Storrs, Conn.) tied a Bulldog record with three assists
in the game, as she assisted on all of Bryant's goals.
The Bulldogs (3-8-3) went into halftime trailing NJIT, 1-0,
despite controlling the first half of play. Bryant fired 11 shots,
with three on net, in the first 45 minutes, as Hinck,
Danielle Malta (Bethel, Conn.), Amy
Orzechowski (Milford, Conn.) and Alex DiPippo
(Shelton, Conn.) all recorded two shots. Bryant also
had three corner kicks while the Highlanders had none.
NJIT grabbed the lead when Emma Vinski found Kori Washington who
beat Bryant keeper Jessica Neales (Swansea, Mass.)
to give the Highlanders a 1-0 edge in the 22nd minute.
The shot was one of only two for the Highlanders in the entire
first half, as Bryant played tight defense and controlled
possession. Neales ended the game with two saves.
Bryant continued to control play in the second half, and finally
broke through against keeper Sadie Mele in the 59th
minute on the first goal of the season by sophomore
defender Steph Del Mistro (East Willison, N.Y.) on
an assist from Donovan, tying the game at 1-1.
After Hinck broke the tie in the 85th minute off of a
rebound, freshman Brooke Duchaney (Hampton Falls,
N.H.) added an insurance goal with 48 seconds remaining in
the contest, with Del Mistro and Donovan both assisting on the
play, staking the Bulldogs to a 3-1 lead. Donovan's three
assist performance was the most for any Bulldog since Casey Grange
recorded three in 2006.
The Bulldogs ended the game with 28 shots, the most for the
squad in any game this season, and the most since recording 28
shots in a 2-2 tied at Bentley on September 11, 2007.
Bryant will travel to Hartford to play the Hawks Wednesday (5
p.m.).
