BROWN POSTS HAT TRICK AS BLUE DEVILS BEAT BULLDOGS, 5-0,
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
NEW BRITAIN, CT- The Bryant University men's soccer team played
Central Connecticut State even for the first 50 minutes of play,
but the Blue Devils responded with five goals over the final 40
minutes to take down the Bulldogs, 5-0. It was the sixth straight
loss for the Bulldogs (1-9-1), who have gone scoreless in their
last seven. The Blue Devils have now won four of their last five,
improving their record to 6-2-1.
Freshman keeper Andrew Snell (South Salem,
N.Y.) made five saves in the first half, as Bryant was
able to keep Central Connecticut out of the net going into the
halftime break, despite being outshot 12-1 in the first 45 minutes.
The Blue Devils ended the game with a 28-4 advantage in shots,
while putting 12 on net.
The Blue Devils finally broke through in the second half when
leading scorer Yan Klukowski delivered a cross to Raphael Guimaraes
who headed the ball into the back of the net to give his squad a
1-0 lead in the 51st minute. Klukowski would add a goal
of his own on a penalty kick just three minutes later, his sixth of
the season, making the score 2-0.
Sophomore forward Christopher Brown would score the next three
goals for the Blue Devils to record his first career hat trick. The
goals, his fourth, fifth, and sixth of the season, all came within
12 minutes of each other, helping Central Connecticut record the
5-0 win.
Freshman Chris Bronski (Trumbull, Conn.) saw
the first action of his career in net, playing the final 24 minutes
between the pipes for Bryant. Bronski made one stop while allowing
two goals. Paul Armstrong made two stops in net for Central
Connecticut on his way to the shutout.
The Bulldogs will play their lone home game of the season on
Friday at Bulldog Stadium against Long Island University (3 p.m.).
