SMITHFIELD, RI - Junior Daisy Martinez (Eliot,
Maine) scored midway through the first half in what proved
to be the game-winning tally as the second-ranked Bryant University
women's soccer team defeated visiting New Haven, 3-0 in
non-conference women's soccer action Friday evening at the Turf
Field Complex. With the win, Bryant remains undefeated
through 13 games on the year as the Bulldogs improved to
11-0-2.
New Haven, which managed just two shots on goal, drops to 6-3-2
on the season.
Martinez' goal, her third of the season following a scramble in
front of the New Haven goal after a corner kick 14:23 into the
contest. The goal was the only scoring in the first half, but
in the second, the Bulldogs struck for two more as Kristin
Fisher (Plymouth, Mass.) scored in the 49th minute and
Amy Orzechowski (Milford, Conn.) rounded out the
scoring with a pretty goal down the left side in the 65th
minute.
Jessica Clark (Barnstable, Mass.) got the win
in goal, her sixth of the season and team-best fourth shutout of
the year. New Haven's Maryellen Shea made eight saves in goal
for the Chargers.
Bryant will host Bridgeport this Sunday at 3 pm.
