SMITHFIELD, RI - Sophomore Julie Geonnotti (St.
Louis Park, Minn.) recorded a career-high 20 kills and hit
a sizzling .457 to help lead the Bryant University women's
volleyball team to a 3-1 win over visiting Southern New Hampshire
in Northeast-10 Conference action here at the Chace Athletic Center
Tuesday evening.
The Bulldogs came out flat in the opener as Southern New
Hampshire (5-6, 1-3 NE-10) used strong play at the net to earn a
30-26 win in game one. The Penmen, behind a team-high
15 kills by Stephanie Dluginski, had an opportunity to go up 2-0 in
the match as the visitors led 29-27 but couldn't close the door as
the play of Geonnotti and freshman Miranda Kolb (Holt,
MI) helped rally the Bulldogs to a thrilling 32-30 win to
even the match.
Riding the momentum, senior Likica Grceva (Natick,
Mass.), this week's Northeast-10 Conference Player of the
Week, powered the Bulldogs to a 30-25 in the third as Bryant
hit .326 in the third stanza.
In the fourth, Maureen Atkins (Fenton, MO)
served up three straight service aces to pull the Bulldogs ahead
24-11 and Geonnotti and Grceva helped close the door, winning
30-17. Geonnotti's previous best was 19 against Franklin
Pierce last season. Tonight she finished the match hitting
.457 with just four errors on 35 total swings. Kolb played
well, finishing with six kills and 14 assists while fellow freshman
Adrienne Boss (Dracut, Mass.) had a season-best
eight blocks (1 solo, 7 assists).
Bryant will host a pair of non-conference matches this Friday
night at the Chace Athletic Center. The Bulldogs will host
Bridgeport at 4 pm and Saint Michael's at 6 pm.
