Bulldogs Win Season Opener 4-2 over
Adelphi
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant
women's soccer team started its season the right way, defeating
Adelphi University 4-2 Sunday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium.
Kristin Fisher (Plymouth, MA)
and Holly Tyser (Somers, CT) each tallied a goal
and an assist, while freshman Megan Vayo (Hanson,
MA) notched her first collegiate goal.
Junior midfielder Amy Orzechowski (Milford, CT)
scored the game's first goal in the 15th minute, as she
took a cross from Tyser and headed it past Panther goaltender
Christine Conway. Orzechowski's goal came minutes after
Tricia Spada (Dedham, MA) rang a penalty-kick off
the post.

After Caitlin Morrison evened the score at one, Vayo put the
Bulldogs ahead to stay in the 43rd minute as she put
home a pass from Daisy Martinez (Eliot, ME).
Fisher made it 3-1 in the 76th minute, one-timing a
beautiful pass from Diane Pascale (Plymouth, MA).
Morrison came right back cutting the lead to one again as she
beat Bryant goaltender Jessica Neales (Swansea,
MA) on a booming shot from just outside the box.
Tyser fired back seven minutes (87th minute) later,
converting a 2-on-1 with Fisher inside the box and put the game
away for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs were all over the offensive zone, as Conway made 10
saves. Bryant also had 11 corner kicks, while Adelphi had none.
Dating back to last season, Bryant has won six straight home
matches and has not lost in Smithfield since Sept. 15, 2006.
Bryant (1-0) will visit Holy Family Tuesday at 3 p.m. before
taking part in the Assumption Nike Kick-Off Classic next weekend.
