MANCHESTER, N.H. - Sophomore Bryan Kaufmann
(Putnnam Valley, NY) scored six goals and classmate
Kevin Hoagland (Glastonbury, CT) added three goals
and one assist to lead nationally-ranked Bryant University to a
12-9 victory over upset-minded Southern New Hampshire University
here today in Northeast-10 Conference men's lacrosse action.
Bryant, which is ranked fourth nationally among Division II
schools, ran its winning streak to a school-record 10-straight
games and improved to 10-2 overall and finished its league schedule
a perfect 9-0. The host Penmen closed out the regular-season
at 3-10 overall and 3-6 in the NE-10.
Junior John Delanoy (Lansdale, PA) led the
Penmen with three goals. Senior Joe Young (Derry,
NH) added two goals and one assist, while junior
Spencer Rennick (Peabody, MA) registered three
assists. Young closed out his four-year career with 93 goals, 50
assists and 143 points. Senior Bryan Molk (Peabody,
MA) helped the Bryant cause with a goal and three assists,
while sophomore Jim Long (Durham, NH) picked up
three assists.
The game remained scoreless until late in the first quarter when
Kaufmann struck for two goals in the span of 1:06. The teams then
traded goals, before the Penmen closed out the quarter with an
unassisted goal by sophomore Dustin Latham (Penacook,
NH) with 2:16 left, and another by Delanoy with 28 seconds
left to make the score 3-3 after one. The Bulldogs outscored the
Penmen 4-2 in the second quarter and Bryant took a 7-5 lead into
halftime.
SNHU tied the game at 7-7 after Young scored 28 seconds into the
third quarter, and Delanoy followed with an unassisted goal two
minutes later. The game remained 7-7 until Bryant took
control with four unanswered goals in the span of 4:15 late in the
third quarter. Hoagland's extra-man goal with 3:18 left in the
third gave the visitors a 10-7 lead, and sophomore Matt
Tyburski (Mendham, NJ) scored 11 seconds later to cap the
spurt and give the Bulldogs their largest lead of the game,
11-7. Both teams managed just one goal in the final quarter.
Bryant outshot the Penmen 26-13 during the second and third
quarters and finished with a 45-33 edge in shots overall. Junior
Mickey Hover (Montgomery, NJ) started in net for
the Penmen and made 14 saves. Junior Michael Kennedy
(Port Jefferson Station, NY) registered 11 saves for
Bryant.
