SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Freshman Jerrann Wright (Cincinnati,
OH)(pictured) scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds
while Jon Ezeokoli (South Orange, NJ) added 11
points as the Bryant University men's basketball team dropped a
58-47 Northeast-10 Conference decision at AIC Saturday
afternoon.
Bryant (15-8, 12-7 NE-10) got off to a tough start offensively
as the Bulldogs missed their first 12 shots from the floor.
But lucky for the Bulldogs, AIC struggled from the floor as well as
both teams were scoreless after the first six minutes of the
contest. Wright's basket with 12:31 broke the ice-cold streak
by the visitors, tying the game at 2-2.
Bryant would later trail 14-2 following Magan McNeil's pick off
of an Orlando Baeza pass and fast-break slam.
The Bulldogs, which shot just 22.6 percent from the field in the
first half, were down as much as 20-9 before a Nate Sudlow
(Brooklyn, NY) basket on a drive and three following a
Yellow Jacket miss helped Bryant close the gap to 20-16 with a
little over three minutes left before halftime.
Bryant made just seven field goals in the first half in trailing
25-20 at the break. More importantly, AIC dominated the rebounding
in the first half, 29-17.
In the second, Bryant worked the ball better with each
possession and this time the shots started to fall. A
Dan Hammond (Brunswick, Maine) three got the
Bulldogs back to within a point at 32-31. Moments later,
Ezeokoli hit a three to knot the game at 34-34 and after an AIC
turnover, Nick Pontes (New Bedford,
Mass.) found Sudlow alone behind the AIC defense for
an easy layup and Bryant found itself ahead for the first time in
the game, 38-36 with 12:38 left.
The lead would be short lived as AIC's Jeff Dosado evened things
back up with a fade-away jumper and from there it was all
AIC. The Yellow Jackets would outscore Bryant 16-2 over the
next seven minutes in taking a commanding 52-38 lead with under
five minutes left.
Ezeokoli's three snapped the AIC run, making it 52-41 but this
time there would be no comeback for the Bulldogs.
AIC (13-10, 11-7 NE-10) was led by McNeil's 12 points and 13
rebounds.
The Bulldogs will travel to Long Island Sunday to face C.W. Post
for a nonconference game. Tipoff in Brookville, NY is at 3:30 p.m.
