WALTHAM, Mass. - Likica Grceva (Natick,
Mass.) and Julie Geonnotti (St. Louis Park,
Minn.) each had 11 kills while Morgan Wood (Cedar
Park, TX) added 10 kills and hit .348 offensively to help
lead top-seeded Bryant University to a 3-0 win over eighth-seeded
College of Saint Rose in quarterfinal round action at the
Northeast-10 Conference tournament Friday evening at the Dana
Center.
The Bulldogs will advance to Sunday's semifinals where they will
face either Franklin Pierce or Pace at 2 pm Saturday. The
conference championship will take place at 7 pm Saturday evening.
Bryant (28-12), the No. 1 seed of the tournament after winning
the program's fifth regular season conference title with a perfect
14-0 record during the regular season, raced out to a 11-5 lead in
the opener and led 24-20 following a Grceva kill and would hold on
for a 30-25 win.
The Bulldogs set the tone for the match in the second game,
hitting .481 offensively and getting strong play in the middle from
freshman Adrienne Boss (Dracut, Mass.). A
Wood service ace made it 29-17 and freshman Miranda Kolb
(Holt, MI) would close it out with a kill just past the
Golden Knight block to make it 2-0 and the Bulldogs would cruise
from there.
Senior setter Tiffany Garry (Frankfort, IL) had
33 assists while junior Delia Glover (Marston Mills,
Mass.) had 13 digs defensively.
Saint Rose (14-13) was led by Rachel Baxter's eight kills.
