Bulldogs win 2nd straight defeating UMass Lowell
57-54
Smithfield, RI - The Bryant
University women's basketball team won their second straight
game on Wednesday with a 57-54 victory over the visiting River
Hawks of UMass Lowell. The Bulldogs improve to 5-16 overall and
2-14 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The River Hawks drop to 7-15
overall and 6-11 in conference play.
Bryant got off to a hot start after the first whistle scoring the
first 10 points of the game while holding UMass Lowell scoreless
for the first six minutes. However, the River Hawks would respond
at the end of the half with a 6-0 run and would only trail by one
going into the locker room 24-23.
The Bulldogs would hold the lead midway through the second half
until UMass Lowell took their first lead with just under 10 minutes
to play. From that point, it was a see-saw battle with each team
exchanging buckets. Junior guard Joanna Skiba
(Providence,
RI) scored Bryant's last
seven points including four important free throws in the last
minute and a half to seal the game. She finished with 13
points.
Senior forward Shannon Perry
(Providence,
RI) compiled her 10th
double-double leading the Bulldogs in scoring (15) and rebounding
(14).
UMass Lowell was led by senior Emily Kordas
(Hillsboro,
NH) who had a game high 16 points
and added six rebounds. Guard Mariette Guillaume
(Audubon,
PA) was also in double figures
with 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Bryant University will travel to Southern New Hampshire on
Saturday, February 4 with a tip time of 1:30pm. UMass Lowell will
host Assumption on Saturday starting at 2:00pm.
