Dan Hammond Tallies Career High 22 Points
WORCESTER, MA - Dan Hammond (Brunswick, ME) scored a
career-high 22 points while teammate John Williams (Springfield,
MA) led all scorers with 23 as the Bryant University men's
basketball team ended a two-game losing skid with a 94-70 win over
Assumption College Saturday in Northeast-10 Conference action at
Laska Gym.
Bryant (10-5, 5-5 NE-10) made 14 of 27 three-point field goal
attempts and shot 53.1 percent from the floor. The Bulldogs
opened the game sizzling, draining eight three-pointers in the
first 13 minutes and hitting on 70 percent from the floor for much
of the first half.
A Williams three from the top of the key followed by a Nick
Pontes (New Bedford, MA) bucket on the inside made it 30-18 while
Williams would follow with another three from the top of the key to
stretch the lead to 33-28.
Leading 52-31 at the half, Bryant would continue to hit from
long range as a three by Hammond made it 57-35 and following a
quick 8-2 spurt by the Greyhounds to pulled the hosts to within
66-50 with 13:22 left, but the Bulldogs would respond once more
with a run of their own as Hammond hit another three from the
baseline and Jarrenn Wright (Cincinnati, OH) capped off a fast
break with a dunk with 10:53 left and Bryant never looked
back.
Wright, earning his first start of the season, had 12 points and
10 rebounds. Jon Ezeokoli (South Orange, NJ) had 13 points
and six rebounds while Nathaniel Sudlow (Brookly, NY) added
12. The Bulldogs host AIC on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
