BRYANT FOOTBALL ROLLS PAST BECKER 55-7 SATURDAY
SMITHFIELD, RI – It was a record breaking day for the
Bryant University football team on Saturday. In addition to a
school record 587 total yards of offense and 469 yards rushing, the
Bulldogs set a new school record for wins in a season with its
sixth in a 55-7 win over Becker in a non-conference game at Bulldog
Stadium Saturday.
Lorenzo Perry
(Providence,
RI/ La
Salle) rushed for 137 yards – all
in the first quarter - on just eight carries. Jesse
Johnson (New Britain, Conn./ Pomfret) rushed for a
career-high 154 yards on 22 carries as the Bulldogs put the game
away early.
After forcing Becker (0-6) to punt on its' first possession,
Bryant found the end zone in just two plays on its' first
drive as Charles Granatell (Franklin Lakes, NJ)
hit Justin Kix (New Shoreham, NY) with a 26-yard
touchdown down the middle. Perry helped set the score up with
a 53-yard run down the middle on the first play of the drive.
On the Bulldogs' second possession, Perry scored from 13
yards out to make it 14-0 and the rout was on. Drew
Shaw (Gladwyne,
Pa.) scored from a yard out to
make it 21-0 and Kevin Anderson
(Plainville,
Conn.) made it 28-0 with a three
yard run up the middle just before the end of the first
quarter.
Bryant led 35-7 in the second before Becker finally got on the
scoreboard as quarterback Corey Nicotera (Whitman,
Mass.) found Keith Branch (Charlestown,
Mass.) with a short pass and Branch turned it into a
86-yard touchdown to make it 35-7.
Granatell finished the day 5 of 6 passing for 78 yards as the
Bryant defense held Becker to just 39 yards rushing and 143 yards
of offense.
The Bulldogs (6-2) return to Northeast-10 Conference play
next Saturday, hosting Bentley College at Bulldog Stadium. Kickoff
is at 1 p.m.
