BRYANT FOOTBALL EQUALS SCHOOL RECORD WITH 27-0 WIN OVER
SAINT ANSELM
Box Score
MANCHESTER, NH – Bryant University sophomore quarterback
Charles Granatell (Franklin Lakes, NJ) completed 13 of 27 passes
for 173 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bryant football team
to a 27-0 win over Saint Anselm at a rain-soaked Grappone Stadium
here Saturday.
The win for the Bulldogs equals the school record for wins in a
season as the Bulldogs improve to 5-2 overall (5-2
Northeast-10). Bryant went 5-4 in 1999 and posted a 5-6
record in 2002.
With field conditions deteriorating rapidly due to the constant
rain throughout the week, the Bulldogs went to work early as
Lorenzo Perry (Providence, RI) scored on an 11-yard touchdown run
around the right side to give Bryant and early 7-0 lead with 6:29
left in the first.
Afer forcing Saint Anselm to punt on its next possession, the
Bulldogs struck once again, this time through the air as Granatell
hooked up with junior receiver Vincent Norris (Washington, DC)
early in the second quarter for a 63-yard touchdown strike down the
middle on Bryant third play of the drive. The Bulldogs missed
the extra point, but it turned out to be all the points Bryant
would need on the day at 13-0.
But Granatell wasn't through as the sophomore connected
one more time for a touchdown pass, this time going to junior
Justin Kix (Shoreham, NY) for a 12-yard touchdown pass with 4:20
left before halftime.
Leading 20-0 at the half, the Bulldogs opened the second half
with a bang as sophomore Jon Zenquis (Northbridge, MA) took the
opening kickoff of the second half and returned it 91-yards for a
touchdown. His return tied the Bryant school record for
longest kickoff return in a game held by two other players.
Bryant's defense limited the Hawks to just 133 yards of
total offense in the game. Perry had 19 carries for 62 yards for
the Bulldogs.
Bryant will return home next weekend to host Becker College for
Parents & Family Weekend at Bulldog Stadium (1 pm kickoff).
