A 2008 graduate of Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vt.,James Sorrentine enters his second season as a member of the BryantUniversity men's basketball coaching staff and first as anassistant coach in 2012-13.
With the Bulldogs, Sorrentine works primarily developing theguards and is also heavily involved in Bryant's recruiting andscouting efforts.
Sorrentine came to Smithfield in June 2011 and spent the 2011-12season serving as the Bulldogs' Director of BasketballOperations, where he was in charge of coordinating all aspects ofteam travel, managing film exchange, overseeing and managing theteam's budget, and organizing and directing Bryant's summer camps,among other responsibilities.
Before arriving at Bryant, Sorrentine spent the 2010-11 seasonas an assistant coach at Rhode Island College, where he helped theAnchormen win the Little East Conference Championship and advanceall the way to the NCAA Division III Sweet 16. Sorrentine'sresponsibilities included recruiting and evaluating potentialstudent-athletes, as well as preparing scouting reports, organizingand planning daily practices, and supervising the team's academicprogress.
Prior to his stint on the RIC bench, Sorrentine spent twoseasons at his alma mater as an assistant coach, recruiting andworking with the Purple Knights on individual skill development. Healso had responsibilities in game and practice preparation as wellas in opponent scouting, academic advising and teamfundraising.
Sorrentine has years of experience coaching at numerousbasketball camps, including the Bryant University Boys' Camps, HoopGroup Elite Camps, Providence College Summer Basketball Camp andSaint Michael's College basketball camps and clinics.
Sorrentine was a 1,000-point scorer during his four-year playingcareer at Saint Michael's, captaining the team as a senior in2007-08. He graduated in 2008 as the all-time leader in career3-pointers (340), good for third most in Northeast-10 Conferencehistory, and set both the school and conference record for3-pointers made in a single game, going 10-for-15 from long rangeagainst Pace on Dec. 10, 2005.
A 2005 NE-10 All-Rookie Team selection, Sorrentine graduatedwith 1,433 career points and earned a Bachelor of Arts ineconomics.
