Ed Argast is in his third season with the Bulldogs in 2016, where he served as Recruiting Coordinator and offensive line coach.
A coaching veteran, Argast brings 36 years of experience to the Bulldogs' sidelines. He began his coaching career in 1979 and has served as a head coach and an assistant coach at every level of college football.
In his first two seasons at Bryant, he has helped the Bulldogs boast one of the top rushing offenses in the league. In 2015, he coached an offensive line that helped the Bulldogs lead the league in passing and rushing. The Bulldogs surrendered just 12 sacks on the year, the fewest in the NEC. In addition, Paul Taylor and Tyler Cardoze both earned First Team All-NEC honors.
Bryant averaged nearly 180 yards per game on the ground in 2014 and eclipsed the 300-yard mark on two different occasions.
Argast began his career at Bates College as an assistant coach from 1979-1981. From there, Argast took over as an assistant coach at the United States Merchant Marine Academy from 1982-1988. In his six years in Kings Point, N.Y., Argast worked with all facets of the program, including offensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator and special teams coordinator. He helped U.S. Merchant Marine Academy win the Liberty Conference Championship in 1986 and 1987.
Argast then made the jump to the Division I level, returning to his alma mater, Colgate. He spent 12 years at Colgate, helping the Red Raiders to a pair of Patriot League Championships and a berth in the NCAA tournament. Argast worked with both the offensive and defensive lines, served as the recruiting coordinator and also worked as the strength and conditioning coach.
He then took on his first head coaching job in 2000, taking over the reigns at Canisius. He served as the Golden Griffs head coach for two seasons before the school cut the program. Argast served as the offensive coordinator, offensive line coach and the quarterbacks coach in his time there.
Argast then made his way into the Northeast Conference for the first time, serving as an assistant coach at Wagner College for three seasons. He worked with the quarterbacks and was also responsible for play calling on game day.
After Wagner, Argast moved on to Central Connecticut for two seasons, helping the Blue Devils win a pair of NEC titles in 2004 and 2005. He served as the offensive coordinator, offensive line coach and also worked with the place kickers.
Argast then spent the next eight years in the New York City area working for Fordham and Columbia. He served as the assistant head football coach at Fordham for three seasons, helping the Rams win the 2007 Patriot League Championship. Argast once again served as the offensive coordinator and worked with both the offensive line and the place kickers.
Following his stay at Fordham, Argast spent the next five years at Columbia, leaving the Lions after the 2013 season to join the Bulldogs. At Columbia, Argast served as the offensive line coach and the place kickers coach.
Argast graduated from Colgate University in 1978 with a degree in Political Science. He was a three-year varsity letterwinner and started at offensive tackle for two seasons at Colgate. Argast earned his Masters of Education in Social Foundations from Rutgers University in 1985.
Argast's son, Charles, was a three-year varsity letterwinner and a two-year starter on the offensive line at Bryant. He earned Second Team All-NEC honors during his senior season in 2013.
