Bianca Mejia enters her second season as assistant softballcoach at Bryant University in 2015.
in 2014, Mejia helped guide the Bulldogs to their firstNortheast Conference Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance enroute to being named the NEC Coaching Staff of the Year. The 32wins in 2014 mark a Division I program record.
A 2011 graduate from fellow Northeast Conference member LongIsland University, Mejia brings a wealth of softball knowledge andexperience to the Bulldog bench, both as a coach and a player. As astandout on the diamond for the Blackbirds, the former two-time NECPlayer of the Year (2009, 2010) helped lead her team toback-to-back appearances in the NCAA Regionals, securing a ThirdTeam All-America (2009) selection in the process. After ending herillustrious collegiate career, Mejia was drafted by the NationalPro Fastpitch Diamonds (Orlando, Fl.) in 2011 and was named the NPFDefensive Player of the Year during her rookie campaign. Mejiacurrently plays for the New York/New Jersey Comets.
Mejia arrives in Smithfield after spending the last seven monthsat Cal State Northridge as the Director of SoftballOperations/Volunteer Assistant Coach. As the Director of Ops, Mejiawas responsible for the team's travel arrangements, videos analysisand recruiting duties, as well as implementing extensive practiceplans.
A Sylmar, Calif., native, Bianca Mejia graduated from LIUBrooklyn with a degree in Health Science.
