SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant women's tennis team will face Tennessee State in the quarterfinal round of the OVC championship on Friday afternoon.
The Bulldogs enter the conference tournament as the defending champions and the No. 3 overall seed. Last season, Bryant knocked off the No. 1 overall seed and regular season champion Southeast Missouri in the final.
The Tigers enter as the No. 6 seed. The winner will face the winner of No. 2 Southeast Missouri and No. 7 Southern Indiana on Saturday at 3:00 PM.

SEASON RECAP FOR BRYANT
- The Bulldogs finished with a 14-7 overall record.
- Bryant won 8 out of their last 11 matches to close out the regular season, including a sweep of New Haven and Providence on Sunday.
- The Bulldogs are led by Yahli Noy. The junior is 21-10 overall and went 11-6 in dual matches this spring at No. 1 singles. She went 9-3 in dual matches at No. 3 doubles with Laura Stypula.
- The No. 1 doubles team of Natalia Vela and Maria Jose Hernandez have been stellar this season. The duo is 19-7 overall and went 13-4 in dual matches this spring.
- Vela has also excelled in singles play. The senior is 12-8 overall and finished 9-7 in dual matches this spring at the No. 1 and 2 spots.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
- Tennessee State finished with a 1-13 record.
- The Tigers went 1-4 in OVC play. Their lone win came at Southern Indiana, 4-3.
- This will be the first-ever meeting between Bryant and Tennessee State.
- Noy defeated Jovana Nikolic and Hernandez defeated Julie Tungamarial in the OVC Fall Invitational in September.
