SMITHFIELD, R.I.. – Providence College outscored the Bryant men's lacrosse team 6-2 in the fourth quarter to earn a come-from-behind 15-12 victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon at Beirne Stadium.
The loss snaps Bryant's four-game winning streak against the Friars and moves the Black and Gold to 0-1 on the year. Bryant returns to the field next Saturday (Feb. 15) when it visits Merrimack.
On Saturday, Patrick Walsh led the Bulldogs with five points (3g, 2a), while Brian Russell (2g, 1a) and Jack Lonsinger (1g, 2a) posted three-point afternoons. Scott Einarson stopped 12 shots and JJ Murphy won 16-of-30 faceoffs, finishing with 10 ground balls.

How it Happened
- Providence came out quickly and scored 10 seconds apart to take a 2-0 lead just 2:45 into the game.
- Bryant found its footing and scored the game's next four goals to take a 4-2 lead. Russell and John Tomsheck tied the game, while Max Dantona and Owen West made it 4-2. West's first goal came on a beautiful transition feed from Patrick Walsh.
- Nick Vance scored his first as a Bulldog with 23 seconds left in the first quarter off a feed from Jack Lonsinger and Walsh's impressive individual effort gave Bryant a 6-3 lead with 12:25 left in the first half.
- The Friars, however, held the Black and Gold scoreless until the 12:59 mark of the third quarter. In between, Providence tied the game at the half and took the lead eight seconds into the second half as Quinn McConnaughey won the faceoff and raced down the field to score.
- Bryant was able to respond as Dawson Reilly tied the game with man-up goal off a perfect feed from Lonsinger. Walsh's second of the game gave the Bulldogs an 8-7 lead.
- After a Friar goal tied the game at 8-8, Longsinger made it 9-8. Russell then took a feed from Walsh and was able to shoot behind his back to make it 10-8 with 1:01 left in the third quarter.
- Jack Horrigan, however, scored as time expired in the third quarter to pull the Friars within a goal.
- Providence would tie the game at 10-10 before Reilly's second of the game made it 11-10 with 10:08 to play.
- Joseph scored 37 seconds later to tie it and Stone Evans rifled home a man-up goal with 6:48 left to give the Friars a 12-11 lead.
- Walsh completed his hat trick with a special finish into the top corner with 4:44 left to pull Bryant within a goal.
- The Bulldogs then appeared to get a stop but Joseph made a diving grab of an errant pass before setting up Rhett Chambers to make it 14-12 with 3:24 left.
- An open-net goal completed the scoring for the Friars.
