BRYANT UNIVERSITY MASCOT TUPPER II SET TO RETIRE IN DECEMBER

Bryant University Official Mascot Tupper II Officially Retires
Celebration scheduled during halftime of Dec. 13 basketball game

SMITHFIELD, RI – After serving proudly as the official live mascot of the Bryant University Bulldogs, Tupper II will officially retire this December after an amazing eight years cheering on Bryant's athletic student-athletes and teams from the sideline.

Bryant will officially recognize its top fan with a retirement ceremony during the men's basketball home game with Marist College on Saturday, December 13 at 4 pm at the Chace Athletic Center.

"First and foremost, congratulations to the No.1 mascot in the entire country on a well-deserved retirement ," said Vice President for Athletics and Recreation Bill Smith. "There is no other mascot that is more adored by our fans and respected by our opponents than Tupper. And a big thank you to his handler Bill Doughty, who in addition to his role at the campus library, made sure that Tupper was always a presence at athletic and university events throughout the year."

At the young age of just four months old, the English Bulldog took over official mascot duties at Bryant University in the spring of 2018 following the passing of Bryant's first mascot, Tupper I, in December of 2017.  And immediately, the newest member of the Bryant family was welcomed with open arms by the entire Bryant University community.

A fixture at nearly all athletic and campus events and a fan favorite on the sideline from Beirne Stadium to the Chace Athletic Center, Tupper II represented Bryant's school spirit at home athletic events with great pride.  During his career, Tupper II saw 17 Bulldog teams captured conference tournament championships and participate in 11 NCAA Division I Championships.

A search is currently underway to identify the next Bulldog mascot with an official introduction of the next live mascot, Tupper III, to the campus community in the near future.
