Timberlake tabbed for Oscar Roberston National Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS.- Bryant University fifth-year guard Earl Timberlake was one of five players recognized by the United States Basketball Writers Association for the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week for games of the week ending Sunday, Jan. 19.

Timberlake had a phenomenal two game stretch last week, helping the Bulldogs go 2-0 after averaging 17.5 points on 72% shooting, 13.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists & 4.0 blocks per game. Those numbers would also help him Earn America East Player of the Week

In Bryant's Thursday night win at Albany, Timberlake would tally a near triple double with 21 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. He also was a threat on defense, finishing with four blocks.

On Saturday against UMass Lowell, he would post his sixth double-double of the season thanks to 14 points and a career high 18 rebounds. His efforts would help the Bulldogs set a new Division I record for rebounds in a game with 56.Timberlake would also add another four rejections against the Riverhawks along with five assists and two steals.

Timberlake joined Tyeree Bryan (Santa Clara), Rahsool Diggins (Massachusetts), Hunter Sallis, (Wake Forest), and Javon Small (West Virginia) as this week's recipients.

Since the 1958-59 season, the USBWA has named a National Player of the Year. In 1998, the award was named in honor of the University of Cincinnati Hall of Famer and two-time USBWA Player of the Year Oscar Robertson. It is the nation's oldest award and the only one named after a former player.

At the conclusion of the regular season, the USBWA will name finalists for the award, which is voted on by the entire membership. The winner of the award will be announced at the 2025 Men's Final Four in San Antonio, Texas, with the formal presentation to follow at the annual USBWA Awards Luncheon hosted by the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 800 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season.
