Bryant Swim and Dive Competes Against The Friars and Crusaders This Weekend

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant swimming and diving teams head on the road Thursday to Saturday for non-conference meetings with Providence College and Holy Cross. 

Bryant's diving squad kicks the series off Thursday night at 5:00 pm at the Taylor Natatorium, and Bryant's swim squad concludes the meet series Saturday afternoon at home.

Bryant will rack up two meets in one weekend putting them at four on the season. The Black and Gold are in their fourth meetup of the Bulldogs vs. Friars series. While the Bulldogs and Holy Cross have only met once prior, resulting in a Bulldogs win on the men's side and loss on the womens.

Bulldog Notes and Notables:
  • Bryant last competed against Providence on October 18th of 2019. 
  • The Bulldogs last faced the Crusaders in 2009, nearly fifteen years ago.
  • Last go around, the men's team beat Providence 189-109 and the women's team also won with a score of 221-78.
  • In the 2009 meet up the women fell 112-150, while the men triumphed 139-123.
  • The Bulldogs lead both the Providence and Holy Cross series 2-1 on the men's side while the Lady Bulldogs lead the Friars 2-1.
  • Crusaders best the women all time, leading 1-0.
  • This year, against Binghamton and Fairfield diver Megan Beasley took first place in the 1m and 3m dives while Makayla Pearce bested her competitors in the long-distance events, taking first in both the 1000 free and 500 free.
  • At the Bulldogs last meet versus Binghamton, sophomore Amanda Witkus broke the 200 fly record with a time of 2:02.40.
  • Diver Christopher Buonocore placed first in both the 1m and 3m competitions, swimmer Leo Luna also placed first in both his events (1000 and 500 free).
About The Friars:
  • The Friars recently finished against Iona University with a score of 133-161 for the men's squad and 197-101 for the women's.
  • Providence has also competed against Brown, Roger Williams, and Fairfield this year.
  • This will be Providence's second home meet of the season and fifth meet overall this year.
About The Crusaders:
  • This will be Holy Cross's third meet of the season, previously facing Boston University and Iona College.
  • The Crusaders fell to the Boston Terriers 90-204 in their season opener.
  • This will be Holy Cross's second away meet of the season.
