SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's tennis team gave Richmond everything it could handle but could fell to the Spiders, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis, Md.

The Bulldogs won the doubles point and at No. 1 and No. 2 singles before the Spiders won each of the final four singles matches.

"Today was a great battle. We had our chances to take a good team down today but it got away. We have a quick turnaround and have to face Navy at 9 a.m. tomorrow."

HOW IT HAPPENED (DOUBLES)

• No. 1 – Caleb Troy and James Aronson were able to defeat the Bryant tandem of redshirt junior Matt Kuhar (Smithfield, R.I.) and junior Artur Jakubowski (Dallas, Texas), 7-5.
• No. 2 – Sophomore Jorge Isaias Ortiz-Garcia (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) and freshman Trent Massam (Wellington, New Zealand) were able to even things with a 6-3 victory.
• No. 3 – Senior Luke Lorenz (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and freshman Grant Pertile (Edgartown, Mass.) picked up a 7-5 victory over Klein Evans and Matt Fernandez.

HOW IT HAPPENED (SINGLES)

• No. 1 – Kuhar continued his dominance at No. 1, defeating Troy, 7-5, 6-2.
• No. 2 – Lorenz cruised at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2, over Brice Polender.
• No. 3 – Fernandez was able to defeat Jakubowski, 6-3, 6-3.
• No. 4 – Aronson brought Richmond closer with a straight-set victory over Isaias Ortiz-Garcia.
• No. 5 – Evans evened the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
• No. 6 – Massam and Joe Nardini then decided the match with a three-set thriller. Nardini won the first set, 7-5, before Massam evened it with a 7-5 victory in the second set. Massam then grabbed a 4-2 lead in the third set but Nardini rallied to win, 6-4.
