Bulldogs top Hawks Sun., stay perfect

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Bryant University women's tennis team earned a convincing 7-0 victory over Monmouth on Sunday, remaining perfect through the fall season.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 4-0 on the season with just the ITA Invitational remaining until the team breaks for the winter.

Freshmen sensations Marion Bouillin (San Diego, Calif.) and Ryan Brown (Austin, Texas) were terrific in the no. 1 and 2 singles spots, respectively, taking care of their opponents in straight sets. The duo also earned a convincing 8-1 win at no. 1 doubles over Brooke Verdiglione and Farrah Smoke.

Senior Stephanie Smyers (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was solid in the three-hole, topping Smoke, 6-2, 6-1, while freshman Jenna LaBarre (Smithfield, R.I.), sophomore Jovana Hadzi-Tanovic (Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro), and sophomore Lyan Juarbe (Gurabo, Puerto Rico) also picked up solid wins on the afternoon.

The Bulldogs, who finished fourth in the Northeast Conference standings a season ago, will wrap up their fall season over the weekend, using November, December and January to prepare for a rigorous championship season which kicks on Saturday, Feb. 8 at UMass.
