Anthony Monteiro leads Bryant with a pair of top-20 finishes at the 2011 New England Championships Friday
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – A pair of Bulldogs took three top-20 finishes in Friday action at the 2011 New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships, as six members of the Bryant University men's team competed and put forth strong showings.
Junior Anthony Monteiro (Leominster, Mass.) earned top-20 finishes in the preliminaries of both the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles, taking 15th and 18th, respectively. His 15.56 in the 110 hurdles was just .08 behind his school-record time in the event, set earlier this season.
Kyle Reid (North Raynham, Mass.) finished 16th overall in the 200-meter dash after four preliminary heats, crossing the line in a time of 22.98, while sophomore Michael Arons (West Hartford, Conn.) took 24th behind his teammate in 23.34.
In the finals of the 5000 meter, senior Ben Coughlin (Worcester, Mass.) and sophomore Colin Gannon (Litchfield, Conn.) took back-to-back finishes, clocking in at 16:07.70 and 16:38.76, respectively. Sophomore Joe Pugliano (West Springfield, Mass.) also competed and recorded had a strong performance of his own in the 400-meter dash, taking 23rd overall in a time of 50.79.
All six Bulldogs put up qualifying times during the 2011 season to make it to this weekend's New England Championships. The regional championship concludes Saturday, May 14.
