SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshmen teammates John Lawson (Bernardsville, N.J.) and Graham Beck (Danvers, Mass.) each earned three top-three finishes in their first collegiate races, and sophomore Nicholas Karadimas (New Milford, Conn.) earned two top-three finishes, but it was not enough as the Bryant University men's swimming team fell to Boston College, 153-101, Friday night at the Chace Athletic Center Pool.
Swimming for the first time as a Bulldog, Lawson swam to a third-place finish in the 200 fly with a time of 2:07.12 to start his career. He went on to claim third in the 500 free and won his first-career event by taking the 200 IM in a time of 2:07.27.
His classmate, Beck, also had a strong start to his career for the Black and Gold. Beck earned second place in the 1000 free (10:14.27) and the 100 breast (1:00.32), and finished third in the 200 breast (2:14.67). Each of those finishes led the Bulldogs.
Coming off a stellar freshman campaign, Karadimas picked up where he left off last year, taking home the 200 free with a time of 1:47.33. He nearly won the 100 free as well, but he was edged at the wall by 10 hundreths of a second. Karadimas also anchored the 400 free relay team to a first-place finish.
Bryant also received strong performances from sophomores Cameron Hessler (Southbury, Conn.) and Nico Seiler (Portland, Maine). Hessler finished second in the 100 back, while Seiler won the 100 fly with a time of 55:68. Both helped the 200 medley relay team finish third with a time of 1:40.32.
The Bulldogs get right back into the pool on Saturday, Oct. 15, when they travel to New Britain, Conn., to compete in the Central Connecticut Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
