BRYANT WOMEN'S SOCCER COMES UP SHORT, 2-0, AT MANHATTAN
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Caroline Morse netted a pair of tallies
and recorded five shots-on-goal for Manhattan College as the Bryant
University women's soccer team fell to the Jaspers, 2-0, on the
road Friday night. Manhattan improves to 2-5-1 with the victory
while the Bulldogs drop to 2-7-1 to mark the end of their
non-conference schedule.
Bryant freshman keeper Lauren Viverito
(Dayton Park,
N.J.) racked up seven saves in
the contest as she faced a heavy offensive attack from a Manhattan
club that recorded 24 shots in the contest.
Morse scored her first goal in the 13th minute,
fielding a ball from Megan Lavecchia in the corner of the box and
beating Viverito on the inside post for the 1-0 advantage.
The Bulldogs managed to keep the Jaspers off the board for the
remainder of the first half behind the play of Viverito who had
five stops in the opening stanza.
Morse scored again shortly after intermission as she tipped in a
cross from Martine Diamond in the 51st minute for the
2-0 lead. Claire Reinhard was also credited with an assist on the
play.
Bryant picked up the pace offensively in the second half, taking
five shots and generating scoring opportunities from solid
possessions, but could not get the ball past Jasper keeper Kara
Davis.
Senior defender Steph Del
Mistro (East Williston,
N.Y.) paced the Bulldogs with three shots. The two teams
tied in the battle for corner kicks, 4-4.
The Black and Gold open Northeast Conference play on Friday,
October 1 as they host Fairleigh Dickinson at 3:00 p.m.
